What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a government initiative which allows us to increase the value of your donations at no extra cost to you. For every pound you donate we can claim an extra 28p from the Inland Revenue on your behalf.
How does it work?
As a tax payer any donations you make to charity have already been subject to income tax. What the Gift Aid scheme does is give some of this tax back to the charitable organisations you have donated to.
How do I know if I'm eligable Gift Aidmy donations?
You must be a UK tax payer and pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax this tax year that is at least equal to the tax that we reclaim on your donation(s). The tax year runs from 6th April to 5th April.
How do I know if I am a UK tax payer?
If you have a salary, savings in a bank or building society, investments or a pension you may well be a tax payer, so you should be able to Gift Aid your donations.
Will this affect my tax status?
No.
What do I have to do?
All you have to do is tick the Gift aid box on this website.
Can I Gift Aid my donations if I am a higher rate tax payer?
Yes! Please tick the box. You can then personally claim tax relief on the difference between your higher rate tax and basic rate on your self assessment form.
How do I cancel a declaration?
All you need do is e-mail info@kjtrust.com telling us you wish to cancel your declaration.
Do I have to tell the taxman about my donations?
Only if you are asked to complete a self-assessment tax form by the Inland Revenue.
