YOUNGSTERS PAINT OWN TRIBUTE TO POPULAR TEACHER
MURAL IS A POIGNANT MEMORIAL

A giant mural of every child’s face at Holywell Primary School has been dedicated to the memory of teacher Kathy Jacobs who died earlier this year.

Under the guidance of two talented mums Carolyn Kay and Carol Beasley 409 pupils of the Loughborough school painted their faces - initially as part of a project to celebrate the school’s art focus week.

But the children asked, as they were working on their faces, if this painting was for Mrs Jacobs. The staff felt this was such a nice thought the mural should be dedicated to the memory of their greatly missed colleague.

To make sure Mrs Jacobs is not forgotten the mums painted a portrait of her hidden amongst the children in a crowded stadium.

Because of the size, the mural had to be painted in three pieces, but it has now been put together and erected overlooking the children’s playground.

A thanks is also being said to school governor Adrian Lungenmuss for all his hard work erecting the finished piece.

Kathy’s husband Alan, his daughter Sarah, 26 and son Martin, 24, visited the school to see the creation.

Mr Jacobs’ youngest daughter Jennifer, 21, said: “I’m going to see it on Friday. I think it’s a really nice idea because she loved children so much and that’s what it’s all about.”

Mrs Jacobs, whose inspiration and belief in others touched the lives of so many people, died suddenly in May and left a whole community in shock.

She had been a teacher at Holywell Primary School for 13 years and in the words of her own children looked upon the school and her class as an extended family.
