A CARING DONATION

A SPORTING Loughborough woman was inspired to raise money for a trust set up by the family of Holywell Primary School teacher Kathy Jacobs who died from necrotising faciiatis (NF) – more commonly known as the flesh eating bug.

Brenda Spurr is president of the Granby Outdoor Bowls Club and for her charity president’s day she chose to donate the money raised to the KJ Trust.

The money raised on the day amounted to £110 which she will present to Kathy’s husband Alan.

Mrs Spurr said: “I read the story in the paper and thought it was something horrible and we don’t know a lot about it and money is stretched in the National Health.

“Lots of people collect for charities such as the Air Ambulance and Cancer Research and I thought it would just do them some good because they are trying to do something about it.”

The trust is being designed to raise awareness of the flesh eating bug and Alan Jacobs, together with his two daughters Jenny, Sarah and son Martin, is fighting for recognition that more funding needs to be injected into research into the disease (NF).

The Quorn family is working with the Loughborough school where Mrs Jacobs was a teacher for around 13-years and have already taken part in several fund-raising events.
